Ottawa Citizen: Adam: Is health care in Ontario becoming the Wild West?
The alarm bells are ringing loudly after what appears to be a proliferation of clinics in Ottawa that charge fees for primary care. Is the Ontario government losing the plot on health-care delivery in the province? Or is the proliferation of fee-for-service clinics the new normal? As all manner of clinics offering assorted health-care services for a fee sprout up across the province, you have to wonder whether the government is on top of the issue. Are these clinics, which charge hundreds of dollars for primary care, legal and do all of them provide safe, quality care? Has the field become, as interim Ontario Liberal leader John Fraser says, a “Wild West” where anything goes? Is the government losing control or has it merely turned a blind eye?
